Involvement Genius Position
Thank you for your interest in joining The Source as an Involvement Genius. In the Office of Student Involvement, we oversee over 650 active student led organizations on campus. Currently, there are over 40,000+ students in the student population at UA who are looking for ways to connect! Your job, as a member of the Involvement Genius team, would be to help connect these students to the 650+ opportunities that exist for them in student orgs, as well as other areas on campus. You get to help shape and directly impact the student experience!
Job Components
Specific duties of Involvement Geniuses may include but not be limited to:
- Creating resources for students on how to access and utilize web resources such as mySOURCE (the org database) and the Involvement Quiz
- Advertising to bring awareness of events and projects on campus to students
- Greeting and interacting with students to foster involvement on campus
- Creating social media content and campaigns for Student Involvement initiatives and events
- Staffing themed tabling events including Organization Spotlight promotion, event promotion, and highlighting ongoing opportunities
- Representing the department at university events including Bama Bound and University Days
- Conducting one-on-one individual sessions with students to assess their current engagement and assist them in finding opportunities unique to their interests.
- Assisting at all Student Involvement events (Get on Board Day, SOURCE Officers Academy, Organization Takeover, Tapping on the Mound, Exemplo Capstone Awards)
- Serve as peer mentor for the UA Vanguard engagement program by facilitating deliberative dialogues with assigned group of students and completing reflection assignments
- Aiding in the creation and development of organization engagement events throughout the school year
- Responding to inquires from students, via email and phone
- Corresponding with students (email, phone, or chat) to share engagement opportunities or mentor them regarding their success with opportunities presented to them; making initial contact with organizations, sending organization information to interested students, and scheduling appointments with students
- Assisting with managing the Student Involvement front office (i.e. taking phone calls, notes, and managing incoming visitors)
- Attending weekly team meetings and monthly 1:1 meetings with Coordinator of Student Involvement

This is not an exhaustive list of dates, but does represent key events that require participation from Involvement Geniuses. We work with Involvement Geniuses on a case by case basis to determine their particular schedule needs on those days.
All candidates that are selected will have to complete a hour per week of team training for their new role, for the duration of the Spring semester. These will be scheduled with candidates after the interview process is complete.
Hours
Students desiring a lead role on the team will be required to work 7 hours each week. These hours will mainly be during normal business hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday – Friday. But they can be later during evening/after hours as well.
Students that desire to be a part of the team but cannot commit to 7 hours per week may be selected for a support position, which only require 3-5 hours. These hours may be during business or after hours.

Job Components
Join The SOURCE team, where student organizations are kind of our thing! The SOURCE is dedicated to three core principles:
- Advocating effective policies, open dialogue, and genuine engagement on behalf of student organizations
- Building a strong community of student organizations by developing dynamic leaders, providing practical and accessible resources and facilitating widespread communication
- Connecting students to involvement opportunities and foster collaboration among student organizations
SOURCE Directors facilitate the mission of The SOURCE through providing leadership and direction in areas that support the goals above and in the following positions:
Director of Communications
- Coordinates the marketing and branding plan for all large-scale SOURCE events and initiatives with oversight from Office of Student Involvement
- Plans and executes the monthly President’s Newsletter, which highlights services of the SOURCE and important campus news and events pertinent to student organizations
- Collaborates with SOURCE Board advisor on upkeep of the SOURCE social media accounts
- Provides branding and design support to student organizations via a consultation process
- Serves on the University of Alabama Media Planning Board
Note: Director of Communications should possess print and/or digital communication experience and graphic design experience
Director of New Organizations & Initiatives
- Responsible for generating knowledge of resources provided by the Office of Student Involvement to new student organizations
- Assist with the approval process and provisional period for new student organizations
- Implement and create training workshops and/or material for new organizations that highlights useful services
- Collaborates with Involvement Genius team to host New Org awareness programming
Director of Outreach
- Recruits and chairs the Outreach Committee.
- Chairs the planning committee for Spring Get on Board Day with oversight from Coordinator of Student Involvement.
- Recruits and connects organizations to partnership opportunities among organizations and across the Division of Student Life.
- Serves on the University-Wide Campus Outreach Committee and FAC Committee
Director of Leadership Engagement
- Works with student orgs to develop leadership trainings
- Executes and develops leadership workshops and resources
- Engages with Student Org leaders to create recruitment and retention initiatives
- Serves on the FAC Committee
- Chair of the SOURCE Awards (Exemplo Capstone Awards) selection process with oversight from the SOURCE Board advisor
Overall, it is important that SOURCE Director candidates have the following skillsets and minimum qualifications:
- Must have at least a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Must be in good disciplinary standing with The University of Alabama
- Must submit an online application for consideration
- Willing to accept a challenge and step out of comfort zone
- Strong Interpersonal Skills and desire to make student organizations better

- Host office hours (This does not include major signature events)
- Attend SOURCE Board team meetings, & 1-1 meetings scheduled with advisor
- Monthly stipend is provided as part of compensation for this leadership role
